ARTIST & POET
Terrance McLarnan is an artist, clown, poet and psychoanalyst. His images are informed by the works of the medium’s earliest photographers and are influenced by the psychoanalytic concept of waking dreams. He studied photography at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and has produced black and white images for over 40 years. His work is in the permanent collection of the Plains Art Museum as well as in private collections. Through clown persona, Dr. Balloon, he worked bedside for many years among the ill in numerous Bay Area hospitals. Terrance’s poetry has been published in Psychoanalytic Perspectives and this journals’ anthology: Writing on the Moon: Stories and Poetry from the Creative Unconscious by Psychoanalysts and Others (2017). He completed his psychoanalytic training at the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California; his analytic writing – Images Seen and Forgotten: The Optical Unconscious and Visual Time Capsules has been internationally recognized. He maintains a private practice in San Jose, California - treating little children and adults.
